Boost Your Metabolism Over 50

None of us can avoid aging! Did you know that as we age we slowly decrease our metabolism making harder for us to stay at a healthy target weight range. Despite what society might tell us, we still have a lot of control over our metabolism even after the age of 50. Here are some tips to help you boost your metabolism.

Be More Active

Incorporate more activity throughout your day. park your car in the spot a little further away from the store, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc...Basically, anything that increase your activity level will help boost your metabolism.

Lift Weights

The more muscles you have the more calories you burn at rest. The more calories you burn at rest the better your metabolism. Building lean muscles will help create a faster metabolism. Make sure you get a full body workout. To get maximum results, focus on strengthening more than one muscle group at a time. For example doing lunges and a bicep curl. Working multiple muscle groups will naturally increase the calories you burn. Also, more muscles groups working makes more muscle fibers which burn more calories and increases muscles.

Eat Enough Protein

Muscles need protein! Make sure you get enough lean protein in your daily diet. Remember that protein will fill you up quickly too! If you start your day with protein it will help balance your hormones and blood sugar level, many experts suggest eating protein first thing in the morning. Keeping strong healthy muscles will require sufficient protein intake, but don't forget you can get protein from plants and legumes too!

Don't Skip Meals or Crash Diet

The more you "yo-yo" diet the worse off it is for your metabolism. Try not to skip meals, this is bad news for your metabolism. Your metabolism will slow down and store all of the food in your body because you are eating less or not at all. Instead, try to eat snacks and small meals every few hours to keep your metabolism revved up. Be mindful of your portions and what you are eating. Avoiding breakfast will keep your metabolism in a slower state as if you were sleeping.

Sleep

Sleeping a full 8 hours reduces the risk of weight gain and will also balance out your hormones that can wreak havoc after age 50. A well rested body will build lean muscle mass and will also help with any cravings. Being more sleep-deprived will slow the bodies metabolism to conserve energy and it will feel like you are utilizing more energy to function. This will also hurt your workouts and your nutrition!

Even the most fit person won't be able to avoid aging but if you start now with a healthy lifestyle you can age smoothly and still enjoy everything you love doing in life. It doesn't matter your age, if you start today we guarantee you'll feel better in a matter of a few weeks or even days! Having a healthy metabolism after the age of 50 IS possible!
